The ancient kingdom of Granada, which we are about to penetrate into is one of the most contrasted regions of Spain. Vast Sierras, destitute of shrub or tree and mottled with variegated rocks, elevate their sunburnt summits against a deep-blue sky and inside their rugged bosoms the most verdant and fertil valleys scatter the scene. Meanwhile, to the south, the volcanic desert emerges from the African heart of the Mediterranean Sea.
Cabo de Gata and Sierra Nevada: a lingering dream world behind landscape.

Connecting landscape & emotion:
From a common place like the seashore, contrast is the perfect tool to recognize other wonders, beings, plants, lights. We look for the opposite, but not with the desire to determine what is more beautiful. As it is almost always the case with any landscape, contrast pushes us towards a decision.
Detailed Tour
1
Agua Amarga (Almería)
The winding coastline always makes for a special setting. The tour starts at Agua Amarga and ends at La Fabriquilla (Cabo de Gata). It works like a stitch uniting the landscapes into a whole. It is a physical but also mental layout, punctuated by milestones that mark moments of contemplation and deep thinking. It is actually 80 km of the smell of sea and history.
2
Agua Amarga-Las Negras
14 km.
A spectacular walk takes you right into the heart of this coastal trail: San Pedro Castle. To take the tour we have to go to Agua Amarga, a small and charming municipality on the Almería coast that has managed to preserve its essence as a fishing village, formerly a prominent Nasrid anchorage in Muslim times.
Until the 1970s, San Pedro was a tiny population center where people lived from agriculture and fishing. A beautiful path leads to its unusual and leafy oasis where fig trees, brambles, grape trees, vines and palm trees mix, thanks to an inexhaustible spring.
3
Las Negras - La Isleta del Moro
18 km.
Crowning the Los Lobos hill (262 m height) stands another of the defense towers built in the 18th century. The place names after the frequent sightings of monk seals, also called sea lions. The seals have long been exterminated.
The proposed itinerary aims to reach Rodalquilar through old trails and inaccessible hidden coves that once served as a resting place for the aforementioned Lobos. Playazo, Bergantin, San Román castle, are some of the places to visit.
4
San José-Retamar
18 km.
From the Cabo de Gata lighthouse, the southernmost end of the Natural Park, to San José, it extends an impressive and rugged coastal area dotted with small coves, cliffs and reefs like sharp islets bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean. We will pass through the beaches of Genoveses, Barronal, Monsul and Cala Carbón among others.
5
Capileira
13 km.
In the wild passes of these mountains the sight of towns, built like eagles' nest among cliffs and surrounded by Moorish battlements, or of ruined watch-towers percehed on lofty peaks, carries the mind back to the chivalric days of Christian an Moslem warfare, and to the romantic struggle for the conquest of Granada. In traversing these lofty sierras, the traveler is often obliged to stop, and lead his sight up and down, forwards and backwards.
6
Mulhacen 3480 m.
23 km.
As we ascend the mountain defiles, there are no longer herdsman or buildings to be seen nor anything to be heard but our own footsteps and the lonely chirping of the cricket. The shadow of the valley grow deeper and deeper, until all was empty around us. The lofty summit of the Mulhacen retain the extreme purity of the atmosphere and a lingering snowy gleam glaring against the dark blue firmament close to us.
7
Granada
Granada an UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. The best way to fully experience Granada’s true essence is to wander through the streets of the city’s oldest neighbourhood, but as you have only one-day itinerary, highlight the must-see attractions such as the Alhambra and Albaicin, the Moorish quarter.
One day will be enough to give a taste of what Granada has to offer and to lure you to return to this wonderful an voluptuous city and a place that wins visitors over with its historic legacy. The sensual combination of the cultures that have lived here over the course of centuries remains present in the form of imposing architectural elements.
